We will be celebrating the Fall Equinox this week!
What seeds did you plant this year and what are you harvesting this fall? 

September is the ninth month. it is the end of a cycle, a time to reflect on the past months, to process and integrate everything that has happened this year. It is the time for us to bring in what we harvested and get ready for winter. 

It's time to sweep out the stagnant energy in your home. How do we do that?

We create a vinegar and salt wash after we sweep out the stagnant energy and mop your floor with the intention of sparking great energy through out our home. Then we create a fine line of salt across the thresh holds of your home, on the windowsills. This creates a nice boundary to keep out energy not serving the home. My broom, swifter mop and carpet sweeper are all energy and dust/dirt cleaners. When I clean my home it is intentional and on all levels.  How did I learn about this way of cleaning/clearing? Through researching history and listening to my wonderful, magical friends.  

Folklore is the shared stories, customs, sayings and art - passed down by word of mouth in our very different cultures around the world. It is the stories our ancestors told us as children and now we have incorporated into our lives, our homes. 

Some of you have asked me to put together a list of plants, herbs, crystals for love, luck, and protection.  

You can try some of these ideas out in your own home to see if they work for you or research your culture for what your ancestors used for love, luck and protection.

Planting rosemary by your garden gate provides a fragrant welcome, natural pest deterrence, and a touch of traditional folklore

European tradition holds that rosemary at an entrance wards off negative energy and brings good fortune.

Put rosemary sprigs in your linen closet and clothes to protect them from pests. 

Lavender - Medieval European folklore, lavender was a heavy duty protective herb. People fashioned crosses out of lavender or hung dried bundles over their doorways to keep out evil spirits, ghosts, and the ‘evil eye’. 

Lavender is also connected to Hecate, the Greek Goddess of witchcraft, carrying or inhaling lavender will assist with clairvoyance.

Mint folklore -  The herb of 'Welcome Home'. In ancient Greece and Rome, mint was the ultimate symbol of hospitality. Hosts would rub fresh mint leaves across their dining tables before guests arrived to purify the air, stimulate the appetite and signal a warm welcome.

European folklore, mint is strongly tied to money and business success. Merchants would rub mint leaves inside their cash boxes or wallets to draw wealth and ensure steady customers.

Cinnamon folklore is deeply rooted in luxury, transformation and the swift attraction of prosperity, Cinnamon, historically was rare, incredibly expensive, and guarded by heavily kept trade secrets, ancient and medieval societies viewed it as sacred substance dripping with divine favor, passion and protection. 

Salt Protection

Salt folklore is universally centered on absolute protection, purification and the sealing of sacred bonds. As one of the oldest and most vital substances on Earth, salt was historically treated not just as a seasoning, but as an incorruptible force of nature. 

Why? 

Because it preserves food and never decays, ancient cultures viewed it as a symbol of eternity, truth and a powerful weapon against negative forces. 

In Scottish and Irish folklore, a pinch of salt was placed in a newborn baby’s cradle or pocket before baptism to protect them from being stolen or swapped by fairies.
